Chief Medical Officer
Department:
Clinical Commercial
Employment status:
Part Time
Reports To:
Chief Executive Officer
Company & role background:
Oxford Brain Diagnostics (OBD) is redefining how neurodegenerative disease is measured. Our proprietary Cortical Disarray Measurement (CDM®) technology uses standard MRI to quantify subtle changes in brain microstructure, creating objective measures with the potential to improve the characterization and longitudinal assessment of neurodegenerative disease.
As disease-modifying therapies become an increasingly important part of clinical practice, physicians, health systems, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies need scalable, objective measures that can help characterize disease, monitor progression, and evaluate therapeutic response.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for an accomplished physician leader to serve as OBD's senior medical and clinical executive.
This is a part-time executive appointment, expected to require approximately two to three days per week. It is well suited to an established physician leader who may wish to maintain an academic, clinical, advisory, or other professional appointment alongside their work with OBD.
Working closely with the CEO and executive leadership team, the Chief Medical Officer will shape OBD's clinical, evidence & reimbursement strategy, guide product and clinical development, cultivate relationships with leading investigators and pharmaceutical partners, and serve as a senior external representative of the company.
The ideal candidate combines deep scientific and clinical credibility with the ability to translate emerging science into meaningful clinical applications. They will be equally comfortable discussing imaging biomarkers with leading researchers, advising pharmaceutical companies on clinical development, collaborating with product and engineering teams, engaging with health systems and imaging providers, and communicating OBD's scientific vision to investors and strategic partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Evidence Strategy
- Lead OBD's medical and clinical strategy and help define the evidence required to support adoption of CDM across clinical care and pharmaceutical development.
- Guide the company's evidence-generation roadmap, including study design, clinical validation, publication strategy, and prioritization of new indications and applications.
- Ensure that clinical evidence plans support the company's broader regulatory, reimbursement, product, and commercial objectives.
- Advise on the development of multicenter studies, investigator-initiated research, and other collaborations designed to strengthen the clinical evidence base for CDM.
External Scientific Leadership
- Serve as a senior medical and scientific ambassador for OBD with clinicians, researchers, pharmaceutical companies, health systems, strategic partners, and other external stakeholders.
- Build and deepen relationships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions, investigators, and scientific organizations in neurodegenerative disease and quantitative imaging.
- Represent OBD at major scientific conferences, advisory boards, industry forums, and strategic customer and partner meetings.
- Help establish OBD as a trusted scientific partner and an important contributor to the evolving field of quantitative imaging biomarkers.
Product and Clinical Adoption
- Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure that OBD's technology addresses clinically meaningful problems and integrates effectively into radiology, neurology, and research workflows.
- Provide clinical guidance on product strategy, new capabilities, indications, and future applications of the CDM platform.
- Work with commercial leadership on strategic engagements with pharmaceutical companies, health systems, imaging providers, and other customers, helping articulate the clinical evidence, appropriate use, and potential value of CDM.
Executive Medical Leadership
- Serve as OBD's senior physician voice within the executive leadership team and contribute to company strategy beyond clinical affairs.
- Partner across Science, Product, Engineering, Commercial, Business Development, Marketing, and Corporate Strategy to align scientific and clinical priorities with the company's growth objectives.
- Provide medical and scientific guidance on external communications, clinical claims, and positioning.
- Participate in discussions with the Board of Directors, investors, and strategic partners and help communicate the scientific foundation and long-term potential of the company.
Qualifications:
We are seeking an accomplished physician leader with deep expertise in neuroscience, neurodegenerative disease, and/or advanced neuroimaging.
Core qualifications include:
- MD or equivalent medical degree, with specialist expertise in neurology or neuroradiology,
- Significant expertise in neurodegenerative disease and/or imaging biomarkers
- Strong record of scientific and clinical leadership, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations at major scientific meetings
- Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and translate complex science into clinically meaningful strategies
- Strong communication skills and credibility with scientific, clinical, and industry audiences
- Ability to operate effectively in an entrepreneurial, high-growth environment
Particularly valuable experience includes:
- Board certification, or international equivalent, in neurology or neuroradiology
- Expertise in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, mTBI/CTE, or other neurodegenerative or neurological disorders
- Experience collaborating with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostic, or imaging technology companies
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical clinical development or the use of biomarkers in clinical trials
- Familiarity with regulatory, evidence-generation, and reimbursement strategies for medical technologies
- Established relationships with leading academic investigators and key opinion leaders in neuroscience or neuroimaging
Equally important are the leadership qualities required to thrive in a growing company. The successful candidate will combine scientific credibility with strategic thinking, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a highly collaborative approach. They should enjoy working across disciplines, influencing without formal authority, and translating emerging science into practical clinical and commercial impact.
What Success Looks Like
During the first year, the Chief Medical Officer will help OBD establish a clear and prioritized clinical and evidence strategy aligned with the company's product, regulatory, reimbursement, and commercial objectives.
They will strengthen OBD's network of leading clinicians, investigators, and scientific collaborators; help advance high-value clinical studies and publications; deepen engagement with pharmaceutical and strategic partners; and provide meaningful clinical leadership to OBD's product and commercial strategy.
They will also become a visible and credible external representative of OBD and help position the company as a trusted scientific partner in the development and application of quantitative MRI biomarkers.
Above all, the Chief Medical Officer will help OBD translate its scientific foundation into evidence and clinical applications that can improve how neurodegenerative disease is understood, measured, and ultimately managed.
Compensation and Equal Opportunity
OBD offers a competitive compensation package appropriate to seniority of the appointment and part-time nature, including eligibility for equity and bonus.
